Phoenix Suns: Analyst Argues Why Firing Frank Vogel Is a Terrible Decision for the Suns
Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Phoenix Suns are in a tough situation after their disappointing playoff exit at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was unacceptable for the team and its fans that a roster featuring Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal wasn’t able to even get one win against a team of Minnesota’s quality.

Due to this failure, the team decided to part ways with Frank Vogel after failing to bring the team together after one season. They have since moved on to hiring Mike Budenholzer, which wasn’t exactly met with a lot of excitement from Phoenix fans.

While the Suns have started strategizing on how to patch up their season, an analyst is arguing that the team’s decision to let Frank Vogel go after only one season on the job is the worst mistake they could have done.

In fact, he gave sound reasons why the decision to part way with Vogel is the wrong decision.

Analyst believes the Phoenix Suns pulled the trigger on Frank Vogel too early

Luke Duffy of Valley of the Suns wrote a detailed piece that argued for Vogel’s right to remain as the Suns’ head coach after only a season with the team.

He believed that the team didn’t give him enough chances given how Beal only played 53 games this season. Moreover, coaching changes before the playoffs also hampered the team:

Bradley Beal missed a good chunk of time with an array of injuries, while lead assistant Kevin Young jumped ship right as the playoffs were starting to go and coach BYU. Although Young stuck around for the postseason, having that going on in the background was not ideal preparation for a team that eventually got swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

He also praised how Vogel led the Suns without putting all of the attention on him:

An extremely underrated aspect of Vogel’s tenure with the Suns was how little he ever made the bizarre season about him. It would have been very easy to get caught up in the constant media attention having three stars gets you – and with the season unfurling in front of everybody – Vogel could have taken to the media to save himself.

While Duffy gave compelling arguments for Vogel to remain with the Suns, the team cannot undo his firing any longer. Fans can only hope that the team actually did the right thing come this time next year.
